MY JOURNEY:

AS AN ARTIST AND EDUCATOR

I am a recent Kutztown University graduate. My concentration is in ceramics. I was primarily a functional ceramicist, however, in my senior year, I became more intersted in sculptural work. I also spend my creative time bookmaking, doing mixed media collages and fine metals. I usually switch up the media that I am working with to develop as many ideas as possible. I want to give my students a chance to experiment with many different forms of art making and be there for them as a knowledgeable resource.

Exploration and discovory are a big part of my teaching philosphy. I want my students to experiment with the techniques for many differnt types of art media. As they get further in the class they will be able to make decisions about what media they want to use to represent their idea.

I hope to give students room to explore themselves and the world around them through art. Art provides us with an opportunity to discover new ways of developing ideas and visual problem solving. For many of my lessons, I start with a "Big Idea" (community, identity, change, perception, relationships with nature, etc) and pose questions that inspire creative thinking and problem solving.

I want to give students many opportunities to make choices in their artmaking and give them space to create personal, meaningful art.  I hope to provide them with a creative lens to view the world and help them discover their own inspiration.
